Thoughts: A good, solid Pay Per View in Extreme Rules. Many would say that it is an awesome Pay Per View, but I wouldn’t go that far. The Pre-Show match was really amusing but at the same time at some really great spots involving not only Torito & Hornswoggle but from Los Matadores and 3MB. Good way to get everyone ready for the show.
The opening match was pretty solid with great showings from RVD and Cesaro. The Swagger elimination with the Deadlift Superplex followed by an RVD 5 Star Frog Splash was just great. Cesaro once again proving his strength and I really hope he’s finally getting that push he deserves.
The Handicap match was what is was and that is to put Rusev over, nothing more, nothing less and it proved its purpose.
The Intercontinental title match is pretty good match between Barrett and Big E. Big E got some boos, basically because the crowd was Pro-Barrett. Seems that the momentum that Big E had has started to fade away and the WWE needs to do something with Big E because it would be a shame for a guy like him to be lost in the shuffle. On that note, Barrett is back as a champion and I’m hoping that his latest title run will be better than his past ones.
What is there to say about Shield vs. Evolution than MATCH OF THE NIGHT…MATCH OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE!!! I had some pretty good expectations for this match and it blew them away. Both teams did really good. Both teams look strong. The Shield are mad over as faces and Evolution puts them over like a million bucks. Really can’t praise this match enough, it’s a must watch!
Now we get to the Cage Match and it was…Okay. It was nowhere near their WrestleMania Match, but it wasn’t bad either. WWE seems to be at the fence on tweaking Cena’s character to give him that edge that reminds older fans of the Old Cena but still have the appeal of the kids. I think Cena wants his character to change a bit but the WWE just won’t let him because they are afraid of the effects it would have on the children who look up to him. Lets make this 100% clear…IT WOULD NOT BE A GOOD IDEA TO TURN CENA HEEL!!!! You can change the character but still have him as a face. WWE needs to take a bit of a risk and see how it goes. They can’t just think “What IF?!” and just do it. People are tired of seeing Super Cena, they need to see Cena evolve, and that does not mean changing the color of his merchandise so don’t think that! But I did enjoy the ending of the match, so there is that.
The Divas Championship Match was decent but the crowd wasn’t into it as much because of the past two matches which is kind of a shame because since Paige has become the Divas Champion, the quality of the Divas matches have improved a bit. But overall, I think the purpose of that match is to hold Paige over until AJ Lee returns from her break and gets her rematch against Paige for the title.
The WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match was the right thing to do to have it as the last match of the night. I was expecting Shield/Evolution to end the show, but I was happy it was this match because I think it’s WWE having confidence in Bryan to Main Event a show as Champion. As for the match, it was great. Bryan showcased his skills, proving that he can brawl as well as he can wrestle plus it’s basically Kane’s best match in about 10 Years. Plus, a FLAMING TABLE?! IN 2014 WWE PG ERA?! Never expect that and it was a welcomed surprise. Great Match and a Great Title Defense by Daniel Bryan.
Overall, the Pay Per View was Great, but hold off on being the most Awesome Pay Per View of the year, guys.
